Genkel's in Denmark
One of the oldest Genkel in our database (Johan Christian Genkel, around 1730) comes from Denmark. Seems that there are no descendants of him with his name. Interestingly enough there are no persons at all with the name Genkel in the whole 1801 census. So we must assume there were no Genkels (anymore) in Denmark at that time. But years later the Genkel's resettled Denmark. The first of these immigrants was Johannes Genkel. He was born in 1845 in Schwerin in Germany, went to Copenhagen and married a Dane there. All his children were born in Copenhagen. One of his sons, Aage Genkel, can be found at the passenger's list for a ship of emmigrants to Singapore. We couldn't trace his route further. Seems that Johannes Genkel was the grandfather of Bodil Inge Genkel, who became well-known in Mexico later. |
